The Inaugural SA20 has been a huge success in South Africa, as the competition has been able to replicate the same level of excitement as rival leagues like the IPL, Big Bash, and The Hundred.
Here is a look at the top 10 players featuring in the opening year of SA20.
10. Kyle Mayers (Durban’s Super Giants)

All-rounder Kyle Mayers has hit four centuries for the West Indies in Test and ODI cricket. As documented by Reuters in their match report, he also has a Test double-century, as he scored an unbeaten 210 against Bangladesh. The 30-year-old was drafted by Durban’s Super Giants for the first season of SA20.
9. Adil Rashid (Pretoria Capitals)
England’s Adil Rashid is one of the best spin bowlers in the world. He is a key part of this country’s bowling attack at the ICC T20 World Cup in 2022. England defeated Pakistan in the final of that tournament. The leg-break bowler is featuring for the Pretoria Capitals in the 2023 SA20. As of the 21st of January, the Capitals and Rashid are the 9/4 favorites in the SA20 betting to win the tournament.
8. Jofra Archer (MI Cape Town)
Paceman Jofra Archer made his return to competitive cricket in MI Cape Town’s opening game of SA20 against the Paarl Royals after 541 days out through injury. The Mumbai Indians bowler took three wickets in that game to remind the world of his talent. Archer was England’s star in the final of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup at Lord’s where he held his nerve in the Super Over against New Zealand.
7. James Neesham (Pretoria Capitals)
Experienced all-rounder James Neesham has helped the Capitals get off to a fantastic start to the South African T20 competition this year. With over 100 white-ball matches for his country, the Kiwi player is very comfortable at the highest level, as he is showing for Pretoria.
6. Kagiso Rabada (MI Cape Town)
South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada is one of the most feared bowlers in the world. He has had a lot of success with the red and white balls. The former number-one ranked bowler in the ODI and Test rankings will ensure MI Cape Town’s bowling attack has a lot of success at SA20.
5. Jason Holder (Durban’s Super Giants)

One of the biggest stars of West Indies cricket at the moment is Jason Holder. The all-rounder can be seen with Durban’s Super Giants after being purchased at the SA20 Auction. Holder became the first West Indies player to take a hat-trick in a T20I against England in 2022, as you can read in the BBC report. He should score runs and take wickets throughout the South African competition.
4. David Miller (Paarl Royals)
South Africa’s David Miller is one of the in-form players with the bat in T20 cricket. He has played in the IPL, Caribbean Premier League, Lanka Premier League, and The Hundred. Miller averages 34.16 in T20I and he holds the joint record for the fastest international T20 century in history. He got to 100 in just 35 balls against Bangladesh in 2017.
3. Sam Curran (MI Cape Town)
After being named Player of the Tournament at the ICC T20 World Cup, the Punjab Kings made Sam Curran the most expensive purchase in IPL history. MI Cape Town signed Curran back in August, so that deal looks shrewd right now. The Englishman is in the best form of his career. He will be hoping to continue that throughout SA20 with his new franchise and then in the popular IPL later this year.
2. Rashid Khan (MI Cape Town)

MI Cape Town made Afghanistan international Rashid Khan the captain of their new team in SA20. Khan is a player who makes things happen with the bat and ball. The new Cape Town man is a big hitter, and his spin bowling causes problems for every batsman in world cricket. The ACB all-rounder is a legend for his country and is already compared with many of the greatest spinners of all time.
1. Jos Buttler (Paarl Royals)
England opener Jos Buttler is the best T20 player in the world right now. He led England to T20 World Cup glory last November, in what ended a brilliant year in domestic and international cricket for the 32-year-old. The new Paarl Royals captain would strengthen any team in the world.
All 10 of the above players will be hoping to feature in the SA20 final on February 11 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, which is regarded as one of the best ICC stadiums in the world.
